Travel Information for the Conference

To reach Ostrava, there are 2 different ways for you:

1 - Have your flight to land in Vienna (Austria) and take the train. The distance between Vienna and Ostrava is about 3.5 hours. We recommend that you take the bus from Vienna Airport to the Rail Station. More information in Germany about Vienna Airport bus can be found at

Please note that the bus will take around 20 minutes to reach the Rail station. Once you reach the rail station, there are direct trains and indirect trains. The direct trains are only 3 trains and the train takes 3.5 hours and they depart at the following times: 9:08, 14:33 and 22:33. The indirect train will change in a city called Brno or in a city called Breclav. All trains to Ostrava depart from Vienna South Station (Wien Südbahnhof Bstg). The price is about 35 EURO

2- Have your flight to land in Prague then continue with:

 Plain to Ostrava Airport . You may use any flight ticket provider. The price depends on provider and the timing.

- Fast Train Pendolino from Prag Holesovice to Ostrava Svinov,
   - you may find connection using sites http://www.scpendolino.cz/index.xhtml, approx price is 630 CZK. You MUST have a ticket before and some trains may be fully booked

- Train from Prague
   - You may find connection at http://jizdnirady.idnes.cz/vlakyautobusy/spojeni/
   - For most trains you needn't reservation
   - Price is approx 430 CZK

- It is better to get off at Ostrava Svinov station.

How to reach Students’ Residence:

From Ostrava Airport:
   - Best possible transport is Taxi, because Ostrava has only few buses to the Airport now. The Approx price is 600-800 CZK

From Ostrava Svinov Station
   - Again the best possible transport is taxi, because directly from Station don't go
buses to Student residence in holidays. The price is about 100-150 CZK

   - you may go to Tram Station (approx 5 minutes from train station) and then using Train 7, 8 or 17 to station 17. listopadu (10 minutes) and then approx. 10-15 minutes walk to Student Residence.

How to reach conference building by public transport:

Almost all hotels in Ostrava are close to Tram Stations. To reach Conference Building – Nova Aula VSB-TU Ostrava you may use trams 7, 8, 17 and the destination station is “Areal VSB”

Fact Information about Czech Republic , Ostrava :

Currency is Czech Koruna, rate is approx 23 CZK per EURO and 14.5 CZK per USD.

Czech Republic has Continental climate, average temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees of Celsius and sometime is rainy sometime is sunny.

Czech Republic belongs to the European Union. Ostrava has low criminality but in some outskirts is higher.

Taking Taxis is safe at any time – they are signed with word TAXI at car roof. The price list is always at drivers doors. Cars in Czech Republic drive at Right.

Older people usually don’t speak English, but most of younger people speak English, at least in Basic Level.

For using public transport you need ticket, which may be bought before travel or from Driver.
